Carmichael Book 6

I'm now about 2/3rds through writing the first draft of the latest Carmichael book. It's still without a title - which is unusual as I've normally thought of one by the time I get this far.

I'm pleased with this one, which hopefully will keep the reader guesing to the end!

Deadly Secrets - Italian translation

It's early days still but all seems to be going well with the Italian translation of Deadly Secrets. I've had some lovely feedback from Italian readers through social media and some very kind words indeed from the Italian publishers ..... "Ian McFadyen è nato a Liverpool, ha lavorato con successo nel settore del marketing. Deadly Secrets è il suo quarto romanzo. Al vertice delle classifiche dei gialli in Inghilterra con il suo investigatore Steve Carmichael, è considerato l'erede di Colin Dexter." ..... My Italian is not brilliant by any standards, but I think I get the drift and being mentioned in the same breath as Colin Dexter is a great compliment - so I've got to be happy with that!

Frozen to Death is now available in large print and in June Deadly Secrets will also come out in LP  - which will then complete the set of large print versions of all four of my Carmichael books.

My day in Thurrock

Had a great afternoon / evening in Thurrock. Had a radio interview with Thurrock Community Business Radio, an Internet community radio station. Big thanks to Steve Langsdale who interviewed me - and for the biscuits. Steve reckons the interview should be out tomorrow evening.

I then went a few miles down the road to Blackshots library to give a talk about my books.  There was a good turn out with lots of questions. Thanks to Rachel for organising the talk and to Angela and her team for their kind hospitality.

No more library talks now until the end of June - in Cheshire.

Back to writing the latest Carmichael.

I had a great day yesterday at Hadleigh and Haverhill libraries. As always, it was great to meet people who have read some or all of my books and ( even if they hadn't) talk to people who were avid murder mystery readers. I sighned lots of books and hope everyone who bought a copy enjoy the read.

I've just one more talk left this month, at Blackshots in Essex next Tuesday evening, then a break from talks until June - when I'm off up to Cheshire.

Due to the talks and a few other distractions I've only written a few thousand words in the last four weeks - which is not very productive. So for the next 3-4 days I plan to be writing furiously and if I can work out what the title of the lastest Carmichael should be. I had a title but the consumer panel ( Chris and Lauren) thought it was rubbish, which in hindsight was probably right!

As far as the new book is concerned the good news is that Chris has now read the first half of the book and likes it and has no idea who the murder is - which is a relief.

Suffolk Library Talks

Hi - Just a quick update as I'm now just over half way through the schedule of talks at libraries in East Anglia this April.

Last week I went to four libraries - Southwold, Beccles, Lowestoft and Saxmundham. Tomorrow I'm at Hadleigh and Haverhill and next week I'm at Blackshots. So far the response has been great - hopefully it will continue at the final three events!

Had some great local press coverage regarding the events particularly from the Lesley Dolphin show on BBC Radio Suffolk - and as always the Book Guild have been very supportive.

BBC Radio Suffolk

More good news - Just got confirmation from my publishers that BBC Radio Suffolk would like to do an interview with me on the Lesley Dolphin Show on Friday 11th April - ahead of the Suffolk library talks I'm doing later in that month. I think they are also going to give away a set of the four books released so far from the Carmichael series as a prize in a competition they'll be running.
